What I do at NNS: I work with reporters on their stories, always trying to make them better and more readable.

How long I’ve worked here: Four years

Why I love NNS: I love working with young, and maybe not so young, reporters and writers as they cover people and events in the Milwaukee area. I worked at The Milwaukee Journal for 37 years and in the last years was the paper’s writing coach. It was the most satisfying work I did there. The same is true at NNS, but here I get to read stories from underserved neighborhoods that I know so little about. So it’s an education for me. Also, I’ve been writing fiction lately, so it’s great to be doing journalism again.

What are you most proud of? I thought Edgar Mendez’ profile of Pulaski/Carmen coach Melvin White was a fine example of someone using his own life experiences to help youth live better lives.
