“Our staff is a jambalaya of multiple races, and everyone adds their own flavor to our NNS pot,” says Damia S. Causey. “We’re probably one of the most diverse newsrooms in the state.”

Name: Damia S. Causey

What I do at NNS: I am the jobs and career columnist. My column, “Causey’s Career Corner,” not only highlights job openings but also profiles people who have taken alternative career paths to reach their current status. I also offer job training and education information, interview tips and other information job seekers may find relevant.

How long I’ve worked here: Since November 2019. I’ve found my tribe.

Why I love NNS? The diversity not just in ethnicity but also in thought is one of the biggest reasons I love working for NNS. Our staff is a jambalaya of multiple races, and everyone adds their own flavor to our NNS pot. We’re probably one of the most diverse newsrooms in the state.

What are you most proud of? I’m most proud of how our work at NNS covers the people of our city in a different way. We get to go deeper than a quick broadcast soundbite or a one to two paragraph summary of a person’s life. We get to tell the backstories of the people and neighborhoods that we cover. Our online paper is unique in that we produce award-winning work, and our content is free to the public.

How to help

Make it your business to keep NNS in business by donating. Your money pays for the dedicated staff of reporters and editors who work hard to connect you to our communities.
