Next Door is featuring more ways to participate in this year’s Virtual Walk for Children – May 22-28, 2021 – with a weekend added to the schedule plus runners and bicyclists now welcome to participate. The Walk for Children is Next Door’s largest community event of the year, raising awareness and funding for the critical early childhood education programs the agency delivers to central city families.
“Support for Next Door’s programming is needed now more than ever as we work to reduce the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on student learning and development,” Next Door President Dr. Tracey Sparrow said. “With your participation in the Virtual Walk for Children, you can help Next Door students get the academic and social-emotional resources they need during our transition back to full, in-person learning for the 2021-2022 school year.”
What you need to know:
- Event runs May 22-28, 2021
- Sign up as an individual or with a team
- Pledge miles to walk, run or ride. All wheels welcome – bicycles, rollerblades, wheelchairs, etc.
- Make a donation. Our goal is to raise $75,000!
- A free t-shirt for anyone raising $100 or more
- Promote your involvement on social media using the hashtag #WalkwithNextDoor
- Event wraps up with a virtual celebration on May 28 for registered participants and Next Door families

This year marks the second virtual format for the Walk for Children. Last year’s event featured 538 participants, 42 teams and 8,130 miles walked for Next Door. We hope you can join us this time around and help us beat all of those numbers!
