Next Door is celebrating one of its flagship programs this summer with a 30th birthday celebration for Books for Kids. For three decades, Books for Kids has provided more than a million free books – through community donations – to Next Door students and children across Milwaukee to help them build their home libraries, early literacy skills and a love of reading.
Next Door is partnering with Milwaukee County Parks to present the city’s first StoryWalk® for our community to enjoy. Families can visit Washington Park from May 22-29, 2021 and walk “page by page” along a path reading the popular children’s story “The Gruffalo” by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler.
The Walk for Children is Next Door’s largest community event of the year, raising awareness and funding for the critical early childhood education programs the agency delivers to central city families.
