It’s Friday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about as the nation grapples with the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please email info@milwaukeenns.org and put “5 things” in the subject line by noon Thursday.

  1. Walk the grounds at the St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care: Fridays in May
The St. Ann Center for Intergenerational Care is inviting the public to walk its landscaped pathways during its Free Refreshment Fridays. The center’s Bucyrus Campus, 2450 W. North Ave., will be open from 10 a.m. to noon on May 8, 14, 21 and 28. Visitors will enjoy a free refreshment from the tiki hut gazebo. Face coverings are required.
  2. Fondy Farmers Market: Early season Saturdays: Saturday, May 8
Fondy Farmers Market, 2200 W. Fond du Lac Ave., is back with its early season. The market will be open from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 8. There will be starter plants, seasonal produce and herbs, hanging flower baskets, natural body care products and more available for purchase.
  3. Nō Studios makers market: Saturday, May 8
Nō Studios, 1037 W. McKinley Ave., is hosting a makers market from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 8. The market is a hybrid experience with virtual and in-person booths. It is free and open to the public. There will be artists, performers, vendors and more. To learn more, click here.
  4. Diaper and period supplies drive: Saturday, May 8
The Milwaukee Diaper Mission, Metcalfe Park Community Bridges, Ayuda Mutua MKE and Milwaukee Turners are holding a diaper and period supplies drive. The drive will be held in the north parking lot of Turner Hall, 1034 N. Vel R. Phillips Ave., from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  on Saturday, May 8. The groups are accepting disposable diapers, pullup, wipes, cloth diapers, disposable pads, tampons, menstrual cups, toothbrushes, deodorant and more. Click here for the full list.
  5. Mother’s Day paint and sip: Sunday, May 9
Vibez Creative Arts Space, 3536 W. Fond du Lac Ave., is hosting a Mother’s Day paint and sip event from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 9. Pre-registration is required as space is limited.
