The new career and jobs beat is going to focus on providing relevant resources and information to the community. (Photo by Tonda Thompson)

Hi, my name is Ana Martinez-Ortiz, and I began writing for Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service in 2018 as a general assignment reporter. A couple of years later, I became the community engagement reporter and now, I have a new title: career and jobs reporter.

The career and jobs beat is going to focus on providing relevant resources and information to the community. That may seem vague but let me explain a little more.

NNS is all about service, it is in our name, and in this new beat, I plan to continue that mission.

I will let readers know about employment programs and opportunities, what you need to know about these programs and how to get involved. I’ll also be writing about individuals and their careers as part of a duo-effort to celebrate people and illuminate career possibilities.

Some articles will be spotlights on a particular program or person, some will be explainer articles and others will be listicles.

My hope is that you learn about employment opportunities and career possibilities. Maybe you’ve always wanted to be an electrician but didn’t know what it would be like or maybe you’re looking to make a career change but need some help, either way, I got you covered.

I want NNS to be your go-to no matter what questions or concerns you have.

This is a new beat for NNS, and I am looking forward to growing and developing it. Below is a list of ways you can help.

How you can help

Reach out:

If you know of a job training program or organization, a job fair or someone who excels in their career.

If you have an experience with a particular organization or program and want to share.

And finally, if you have any questions or concerns.

You can email me at amartinez-ortiz@milwaukeenns.org or call/text me at 414-858-8520.
