Penfield Montessori Academy, a public charter school, received its charter renewal through UW-Milwaukee.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue serving our community and look forward to graduating our first 8th grade class in the spring of 2025,” said Dr. Mora Anderson, Head of School at Penfield Montessori. “We are proud of our inclusive Montessori curriculum and honored to bring quality education to children of all abilities.”

Penfield Montessori Academy is a free public Montessori charter school in Milwaukee that serves children starting at K3. Penfield Montessori has a multi-age classroom environment with a diverse student population that represents families from all socioeconomic and racial backgrounds throughout Milwaukee. Approximately 26% of the children have a disability or developmental delay, and Penfield Montessori prides itself on providing physical, occupational, and speech therapy, as well as social-emotional, and wellness programs in-house. Penfield Montessori’s curriculum promotes an individualized education that supports all children, including those with special needs, and focuses on hands-on and sensory-based learning.

Spencer, a current student, enrolled in K3 when the school opened in 2016. Spencer’s mom, Cori, spoke about the uniqueness of Penfield Montessori and said what she liked most was the blend of Montessori education, the diverse population served, the inclusiveness of children of all abilities, and the passionate staff. She commented, “It’s great that he has grown up in an educational environment where you not only learn about the things that make us different, but also learn about how we are the same. That first-hand experience brings awareness and helps children develop empathy and kindness.”
