1. Vote in the Virtual Teen Art Contest: until Saturday, Dec. 18

All submissions to the Milwaukee Public Library’s Virtual Teen Art Gallery are on display through Saturday Dec. 18. Virtually tour the gallery and vote for your favorite works here. The three submissions with the most votes will continue to be displayed after voting has concluded.

2. Flood the Holidays – Inundación de Libros: Friday, Dec. 17

Escuela Verde’s Newline Community Café hosts this community event that includes books for sale from La Revo Books, free books from Barby the Book Fairy and more. The event runs from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 17 at 3618 W Pierce St.

3. The Black Diaspora Symphony Orchestra Presents: An Evening of Lullabies and Dirges: Saturday, Dec. 18

This concert honors the children of Milwaukee and Waukesha who have been killed in 2021; those who have died from drug overdoses; healthcare workers struggling with patient deaths due to COVID-19; and anyone else who has also lost a loved one. The event is free, starting at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 1445 N. 24th St.

4. Kujichagulia Holiday Market: Sunday, Dec. 19

Meet the makers behind the Kujichagulia Producers Collective for an afternoon holiday market complete with food and live music. The market runs from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19 at Sherman Phoenix, 3536 W. Fond du Lac Ave.

5. Kwanzaa Workshop: First Fruits of the Harvest: Sunday, Dec. 19

Learn more about what Kwanzaa is and how to observe it at this workshop, which includes food, entertainment and a free Kwanzaa guide with a donation. The event runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 19 at 3910 W. Lisbon Ave.
