Spectrum today announced Milwaukee Youth Arts Center (MYAC) will receive $10,000 through the 2021-2022 Stand For The Arts Awards, a partnership with Ovation TV that recognizes local arts, cultural and educational organizations and programs. Since the initiative started in 2017, Ovation TV and Spectrum have given out 50 awards totaling $500,000 towards art education.

Spectrum and Ovation TV representatives presented the award to the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center  Student Advisory Board during its debut event on Tuesday, March 8, where the organization also unveiled The Burke Foundation mural and celebrated its completed renovation and expansion.

“By increasing access to the arts and arts education, Milwaukee Youth Arts Center is doing outstanding work to enrich the lives of Milwaukee residents,” said Adam Falk, Senior Vice President, State Government Affairs for Charter Communications, Inc., which operates the Spectrum brand of Internet, TV, Mobile and Voice services. “Our engagement in this initiative and the meaningful support we get from programming partners like Ovation is yet another avenue for Spectrum to help make a positive impact in the communities it serves.”

In collaboration with First Stage and the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, the MYAC is an arts-in-education facility in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A performing arts education and rehearsal facility for the young people of southeastern Wisconsin, it provides opportunities for children to express themselves through the arts in a multicultural environment.

“We are honored to be recognized as one of the 15 arts and culture organizations in the United States to be a recipient of this prestigious award,” said Del Wilson, Executive Director of Milwaukee Youth Arts Center. “Funds from this grant will directly support MYAC’s mission to provide Milwaukee’s youth with an opportunity to develop their talents and form a life-long appreciation for the performing arts.”

Select arts organizations are awarded Stand For The Arts contributions based on the following criteria: support of creative/artistic communities via economic and/or mental health recovery connected programs, commitment to accessibility and equity in the arts, and advocacy for underserved populations in their communities.

“We’re beyond thrilled to be recognizing Milwaukee Youth Arts Center through our Stand For The Arts awards initiative with Charter,” said Sol Doten, Senior Vice President, Content Distribution and Partner Marketing for Ovation TV. “It is imperative that we continue to support local arts organizations like Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, as they continue to inspire children to discover and develop their talents through performing arts education and programming. We applaud their hard work and support our shared missions of arts access for all.”

“I commend Ovation and Charter for their support in recognizing the important work organizations like Milwaukee Youth Arts Center does to promote arts in the City of Milwaukee ,” said State Sen. La Tonya Johnson. “Accessibility to the arts provides direct economic growth for local communities and makes the region a more attractive place to live and work.”
