5 things to know and do the weekend of May 13

It’s Friday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please submit your news by clicking here.

1. Meet and greet with Magic Mike from the movie “Blood In, Blood Out:” Saturday, May 14

Magic Mike actor Victor Rivers, from the movie “Blood In, Blood Out” will be taking photos and signing memorabilia at this meet and greet, running from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 14 at 1225 S. Cesar E Chavez Drive.

2. Cherry Street Garden preparation: Saturday, May 14

Spring time means spring cleaning, including in community gardens. Cherry Street Community Garden is looking for volunteers to help clean up garden beds and get them ready for the season. The cleanup runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 14 at 1431 N. 23rd St. Sign up here.

3. Youth resource fair at South Division High School: Saturday, May 14

Muskego Way Forward and Milwaukee Christian Center have organized a resource fair for youth of all ages, with free food, activities and live music by DJ Stretch of True Skool. There will be information about summer programs and internships as well. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 14 at South Division High School, located at 1515 W. Lapham Blvd.

4. Bloom and Groom Flower Sale: Saturday, May 14

VIA, formerly known as Layton Boulevard West Neighbors, is hosting a plant sale from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 14 at 1530 S 38th St. Everything is between $1 and $6. There will be a purchase limit of $30 from 10 a.m. to noon. Afterward, you can return to purchase more plants. Questions? Email Kevin Solis at kevin@viacdc.org. 

5. She Buys Black: The Black Women Marketplace: Sunday, May 15

An indoor shopping experience curated for Black women looking to network and support Black women-owned businesses. The event also features music, giveaways, raffles, photo opportunities and live demonstrations. The event runs from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 15 at 5235 N. 35th St. RSVP to receive a welcome drink here.

BONUS: UWM Afro-Caribbean Jazz group: Sunday, May 15

The UW-Milwaukee Afro-Caribbean Jazz Group will be performing outdoors starting at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 15 on the patio of Riverwest Pizza, located at 932 E. Wright St.

    This WOULD have been nice TO DO this weekend if would have known.

    I didn’t get thus email until TODAY, Monday.

    In the future can I get the email EARLIER so I can attend the events!
