Post From Community: Rock the Block to foster community, beautify Amani’s Beta Block

MILWAUKEE  – Residents, along with staff and volunteers from local organizations and businesses will come together to clean and beautify the 2800 block of North 22nd Street on Saturday, June 4. 

WHO: Amani United, Dominican Center, residents, volunteers, and Block By Block partners.  

WHAT: Rock the Block! This neighborhood beautification event will be held to engage neighbors on the Beta Block as part of the Block-by-Block initiative. There will be a clean-up, small home repair and/or beautification projects, fellowship and food! 

WHY: A concentration area in the resident-led Amani Revitalization plan is Housing and Economic Development, which the Block-by-Block initiative and Rock the Block parties support.  

WHEN: Saturday, June 4, 2022. 10am-12pm: Block clean up. 12-2pm Rock the Block (small home repairs, painting projects, block beautification efforts, cleaning and mowing residents’ lawns). 

WHERE: North 22nd Street and Locust Street (2800 block of N. 22nd St.) 

TO HELP: Volunteers and organizational vendors are being sought for this event and there’s still time to sign up. To sign up, volunteers can visit http://bit.ly/VolunteerDominicanCenter and vendors can visit http://bit.ly/DCvendors  

VISUALS: Photo opportunity of the Beta Block in Milwaukee’s Amani neighborhood being cleaned and beautified. Residents, volunteers and local organizations will be present. Interview opportunities with residents, volunteers and neighborhood partners.

DC serves as both neighborhood convener and the community anchor for the White House Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative, Building Neighborhood Capacity Program and is the lead community partner for the US Department of Justice’s Innovations of Community Based Crime Reduction grant for Amani.
