It’s Monday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please submit your news by clicking here at least two weeks in advance.

1. “Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers”: A listening session and conversation: Monday, June 6

This the first of three Monday listening sessions and conversations around Kendrick Lamar’s album “Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers.” The sessions will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Monday, June 6; June 13; and June 20 at Mystic Phoenix Creative Studio, located at 5305 W. Capitol Drive. The event is free to attend.

2. Neighborhood Plant Exchange at Sherman Perk: Monday, June 6

Sherman Perk Coffee Shop will host a neighborhood plant exchange from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, June 6 at 4924 W. Roosevelt Drive.

3. African American Music Appreciation Month: Songs That Get Us Through: Wednesday, June 8

The Milwaukee Public Library hosts this conversation with musician Steve Burks focused on the resilience of Black Americans as expressed through classic songs from various genres. The virtual conversation begins at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8. RSVP here.

4. VIA ice cream social and community resource fair: Thursday, June 9

VIA CDC, the neighborhood group formerly known as Layton Boulevard West Neighbors, is hosting an ice cream social and community resource fair. Come enjoy free ice cream, games, local resources and meet VIA’s staff from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 9 at 1755 S. 32nd St.

5. Youth Empowerment Summer Program: Register by June 17

The Milwaukee Muslim Women’s Coalition’s Youth Empowerment Summer Program is geared toward Muslim kids. The program teaches participants to learn strategies to advocate for themselves. Youths, ages 12 to 16, will be able to share their stories, make new friends, build communication skills, answer hot topics related to Islam and leave the program with self-confidence. The program begins on June 21, but registration is due by June 17. Register here.
