5 things to know and do the weekend of July 29

It’s Friday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please submit your news by clicking here at least two weeks in advance.

1. Amani Youth Council Fun Fridays: Friday, July 29

Join the Amani Youth Council and Friends of Moody Park for games, sports and food for $1 from noon to 4 p.m. Friday, July 29 at Moody Park, located at 2201 W. Auer Ave. There will also be another Fun Friday on Friday, Aug. 12.

2. Green Talks at The Lounge: Friday, July 29

Green Talks is a recurring series of discussions around how the environment affects our health, with opportunities for advocacy and art-making. This week’s talk runs from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, July 29 at Plazita Verde, located at 1608 W. Forest Home Ave.  

3. Kinnickinnic River Neighbors in Action’s annual summer picnic: Saturday, July 30

Neighbors around Pulaski Park are invited to Kinnickinnic River Neighbors in Action’s annual summer picnic. Enjoy nachos, family-friendly games, music and more from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 30 at the Pulaski Park pavilion at 2677 S. 16th St.

4. Community block party in Walnut Hill: Saturday, July 30

New Hope Youth and Family Center hosts this family-friendly open house and block party, complete with community resources, face painting, free food, vendors, bounce house, a DJ and more. The party starts at noon Saturday, July 30 at New Hope Youth and Family Center, located at 3248 W. Brown Ave.

5. Fundraiser for Camp ‘Xhongo’: Saturday, July 30

Camp ‘Xhongo’ Peace Retreat is an annual camping trip for men and boys ages 7 and older, complete with fishing, games and swimming, stargazing and even a push-up contest. This will be the camp’s 26th year when campers set off for the weekend on Aug. 12. However, you can help support the camping trip through a fundraiser from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, July 30 at Coffee Makes You Black, located at 2803 N. Teutonia Ave.

BONUS: Back to School Health Fair: Friday, July 29

Get school supplies, backpacks, required vaccinations (no insurance needed,) lead level testing for children ages 1 through 6, health screenings for children and adults from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, July 29 at the Fiserv Forum and Deer District, located at 1111 Vel. R Phillips Ave.
