1. Back to school craft club: Friday, Aug. 12

Mystic Phoenix Art Studio is hosting weekly back-to-school craft-making sessions starting at 5 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 12 at Capitol Drive Lutheran Church, located at 5305 W. Capitol Drive.

2. “Basura Bash”: Saturday, Aug. 13

Clarke Square Neighborhood Initiative hosts its monthly neighborhood cleanup, or “Basura Bash,” from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13. Meet at West Scott and South 18th streets.

3. Community resource fair: Saturday, Aug. 13

Radio station WNOV-AM (860) hosts its eighth annual community resource fair featuring free bookbags, bounce house, spades competition and more. The Milwaukee Health Department and Molina Healthcare are also offering $100 Visa gift cards for those getting their first or second COVID-19 shot and $50 for booster shots. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 1531 W. Vliet St.

4. Birthday party and bike giveaway: Saturday, Aug. 13

Community leader Andre Lee Ellis is celebrating his birthday by giving away more than 150 bicycles and throwing a community picnic. The event starts with a bike giveaway at 10 a.m., followed by a neighborhood bike ride and picnic on Saturday, Aug. 13 at 1313 W. Reservoir Ave.

5. Canvassing for affordable broadband: Sunday, Aug. 14

Join Milky Way Tech Hub in canvassing the Sherman Park neighborhood to inform residents about the “Affordable Connectivity Program,” which provides discounts for high-speed internet. Canvassing runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, meeting at 3803 W. Fond Du Lac Ave.
