1. “Reflecting my Muslim Americanism” opening reception: Friday, Sept. 9
Fanana Banana, an art collective serving Muslim, Middle Eastern and North African artists in Milwaukee, has collaborated with the Milwaukee Artist Resource Network, or MARN, on a new exhibition exploring issues of American identity through the Muslim perspective. The exhibition runs through Oct. 23, but the opening reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9 at the MARN ART + CULTURE HUB, located at 191 N. Broadway. 2. Silver City International Festival: Saturday, Sept. 10
The Silver City International Festival is back for an 11th year to celebrate the cultural diversity of Silver City. VIA CDC will host this event running from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 on West National Avenue between South 33rd and 35th streets. A full list of entertainment and vendors can be found here.
3. “Harvest Day” in Lindsay Heights: Saturday, Sept. 10
“Harvest Day” is Walnut Way Conservation Corporation’s annual celebration of Lindsay Heights’ “vibrant spirit, culture and history with local performers, music, cuisine, resource sharing and retail vendors.” The event takes place from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10 at Fondy Park, located at 2200 W. Fond Du Lac Ave.
4. Hip Hop Caucus homecoming: Saturday, Sept. 10
The Hip Hop Caucus, a national nonprofit organization connecting hip-hop to civic engagement, is coming to Milwaukee as part of a nationwide tour to get out the vote. The event in Milwaukee runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 10 at America’s Black Holocaust Museum, located at 401 W. North Ave. Free registration for the event here.
5. Mexican Independence Day Festival: Saturday, Sept. 10
While Mexican Independence Day is not until Sept. 16, UMOS is hosting a Mexican Independence Day Festival from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at 2701 S. Chase Ave.
BONUS: Vliet Street Paint and Sip: Sunday, Sept. 11
VIBEZ Creative Studio is back out in the community with this paint and sip event. Paint is provided by VIBEZ, and sips will be provided by Triciclo Peru. The event runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11 at Triciclo Peru, located at 3801 W. Vliet St. Register for $10 here.
