It’s Friday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please submit your news by clicking here at least two weeks in advance.

1. “March of Champions” youth basketball tournament: all weekend

The NCAA’s March Madness is not the only basketball event going on. This weekend, the “March of Champions” is a single-elimination tournament that features Milwaukee’s school-based elementary and middle school teams. The tournament, at various citywide MPS locations, runs from Friday, March 17 through Sunday, March 19.

2. Green-themed art therapy: Friday, March 17

The Milwaukee Art Therapy Collective is hosting an open studio with art-making activities related to the color green for all ages and skill levels. This free event is open to anyone and materials are provided. The event runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 17 at 9224 W. Burleigh St.

3. Thrive On King Call for Art: Saturday, March 18

The ThriveOn Collaboration is constructing “Thrive On King,” a multipurpose building at 2153 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive that includes apartment units and a first-floor community space. The ThriveOn Collaboration recently put out a call for artists to submit ideas on how to use the first floor community space. Artists must be 18 years or older and be based in Greater Milwaukee or have significant ties to Milwaukee. There will be a couple of information and Q&A sessions for interested artists, one from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 18 at Greenwood Park Gallery & Framing, located at 4233 W. Fond Du Lac Ave. More information here.

There will also be a virtual Q&A session for interested artists from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 21. More information here.

4. Men’s Wellness Day: Saturday, March 18

Participate in a conversation with men about self-care with brunch, networking, entertainment, panel discussion and a raffle. Comfortable attire recommended. The full event, sponsored by Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin and NPBA Community Cares, runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, March 18 at 5370 W. Fond Du Lac Ave.

5. Free grocery giveaways; Saturday, March 18 and Sunday, March 19

DreamTeam United MKE and partners will be giving away groceries at an event with Full Spin Entertainment from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 18 at 80 Recording Studios, located at 1831 W. Forest Home Ave. More information here.

DreamTeam United MKE will also be hosting a grocery giveaway and resource fair on Saturday, April 1 and is looking for resource vendors. “Vendors” will not sell items, but provide resources to those in attendance at the event. Sherman Park Grocery Store and partners will also be giving away hot drinks, desserts and $25 gift cards to Sherman Park Grocery from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 19 at the Embassy Center MKE parking lot, located at 3725 N. Sherman Blvd. More information here.

BONUS: Deadline to register for Girls’ Day at City Hall: Monday, March 20

The 13th annual Girls’ Day at City Hall seeks to introduce girls in high school and middle school to careers in political leadership through meeting local leaders and discussions at City Hall led by women working in public service. Girls’ Day is not until March 23, but the deadline to register is Monday, March 20.
