It’s Friday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please submit your news by clicking here at least two weeks in advance.

1. Early voting: through Saturday, April 1 

Early voting for the April 4 general election will continue through Saturday, April 1. There are several positions on the ballot, including aldermanic races, school board races as well as state and local judicial contests.

2. Harambee quality-of-life feedback session: Saturday, April 1 

If you live in Harambee, you’re invited to this series of virtual feedback sessions on how to improve quality of life in your neighborhood. You will receive $25 for each session you attend, plus an extra $10 if you bring a neighbor. This weekend’s session runs from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, April 1 online via Zoom. Find more information and register to attend.  

3. Free grocery giveaway and resource festival: Saturday, April 1 

DreamTeam United MKE and partners will be giving away groceries at this resource festival. In addition to groceries, there will also be free haircuts and braiding, face painting, a DJ and more. The event runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 1 at Embassy Center MKE, located at 3725 N. Sherman Blvd.  

4. Free theater classes for youths: Saturday, April 1 and every Saturday through May 13 

The Milwaukee Repertory Theater and partners are hosting free theater classes at three locations for youths ages 7 and older. The classes are open to all experience levels (no prior theater experience necessary) and you do not need to attend all classes to participate. Classes run from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every Saturday at the following locations: 

  • Milwaukee Public Library Center Street Branch, located at 2727 W. Fond Du Lac Ave. 
  • COA Goldin Center, located at 2320 W. Burleigh St. 
  • Greenfield Bilingual School, located at 1711 S. 35th St. 

Lunch is provided at all classes.

5. Community baby shower: Saturday, April 1 

Mommie & Me Prenatal Care Service hosts this community baby shower from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 1 at Safe & Sound, located 4422 W. Leon Terrace. 

Bonus: César E. Chávez Day celebration: Friday, March 31

Help honor farmworker and civil rights leader César E. Chávez at a celebration Friday, March 31 at the City Hall Rotunda, 200 E. Wells St., beginning at 10 a.m.  U.S. Undersecretary of Agriculture for Marketing and Regulatory Programs Jennifer Moffitt will be the featured speaker.
