1. Ice Cream Social: Saturday, July 22
Milwaukee Recreation is having an ice cream social on Saturday, July 22 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the O.A.S.I.S Community Center, 2414 W. Mitchell St. Purple Door Ice Cream will be serving at this free event. More information here.
2. Kiddie Prom: Saturday, July 22
COA Youth & Family Centers holds its second annual kiddie prom on Saturday, July 22 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the COA Goldin Center, 2320 W. Burleigh St. This year’s dress code is “tiki party.” There will be food, music and an opportunity for adults and youths to be nominated for prom court. Registration is required. 3. Latino Conservation Week: Sunday, July 23
To celebrate Latino Conservation Week in Milwaukee, individuals will come together from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Walker Square Park 1031 S. 9th St. on Sunday, July 23. The event will include playing, eating paletas and chances to win a raffle. Don’t forget to take photos while there as some of your photos can be published at the Escuela Verde Newline Cafe on 3618 W. Pierce St. More information here.
4. Bicycle Repair Session: Sunday, July 23
Ben’s Cycle, a bicycle shop, will be having a repair session for riders on Sunday, July 23 to bring their bike in and learn how to repair it. Lessons include fixing a flat tire, brake adjustments and more. The event will be from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at 1013 W. Lincoln Ave. Email alex@benscycle.com to sign up as space is limited. 5. Safe Neighborhood Essay Contest: Deadline approaching
Safe & Sound is hosting a “Safe Neighborhood” essay contest for high school students in the Milwaukee and Racine area. Participating youths must write a 500 word to 1,000 word essay on how they make their neighborhood safe. A $1,000 and $500 prize will be awarded to first- and second-place winners, along with a block party occurring in honor of their essay. Essays are accepted through Monday, July 31 and should be sent to info@safesound.org. More information here.
