We Energies customers can expect to pay more for electricity in 2024 if a rate increase proposed by the utility company is approved by the Wisconsin Public Service Commission by the end of the year.
According to We Energies, the rate changes are to support new infrastructure expenditures, including renewable energy.
The company says the proposal is part of a plan to save customers $2 billion over the next 20 years.
What is We Energies requesting?
We Energies, which most Milwaukeeans use, is requesting a 1.6% increase.
If approved, this would be We Energies’ second rate increase in two years. Last year, the commission approved an 11.2% increase for residential customers of We Energies.
The proposed increase is anticipated to cost less than $4 per month for the average We Energies household electric user, according to the We Energies News Center.
