1. Gaming at Good Hope: Monday, April 29
The Milwaukee Public Library Good Hope Branch invites teens to enjoy snacks and play video games from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, April 29 at 7715 W. Good Hope Road. Featured games will include “Just Dance,” “Minecraft,” “Mario Kart” and more. More information here.
2. Walker’s Point Gathering: Tuesday, April 30
Network with neighbors and hear neighborhood updates at the Walker’s Point community gathering from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30 at 1288 S. First St. Feel free to bring any announcements or news to share with the neighborhood. More information here.
3. Focus Group: Tuesday, April 30
Ubuntu Research & Evaluation will host a focus group for residents in the Black community to discuss topics related to science, health and environmental issues. It will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30 at The Table, 5305 W. Capitol Drive. Dinner will be provided and participants will receive a $75 gift card. Click here to register. The Latino Entrepreneurial Network Inc. will kick off its 11th annual Small Business Academy from 8 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, April 30 at 3419 W. Forest Home Ave. Participants will learn about artificial intelligence, the stock market and more. The academy will run through Friday, May 3. Click here to register. More information here.
5. Queer Writers Workshop: Thursday, May 2
The Milwaukee LGBT Community Center will hold a writing workshop for queer individuals from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 2 at 315 W. Court St. Share your writing projects or come up with a creative piece during the session. More information here.
Bonus: Laundry and Literacy Day: Tuesday, April 30
North Shore Bank, LaundryCares Foundation and the City of Milwaukee Office of Early Childhood Initiatives are collaborating to close the early childhood literacy gap in Milwaukee with the opening of a new “Read, Play, Learn” space at the Quick Wash Laundromat, 7903 W. Capitol Drive. To celebrate the new space, Milwaukee residents are invited to attend a “Free Laundry and Literacy Day” at the Quick Wash from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30. The event will include complimentary laundry services, early financial literacy activities for children and adults, refreshments and more. More information here.
