It’s Friday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please submit your news by clicking here at least two weeks in advance.

1. Family Culture Night: Friday, July 19 

A family culture night will be held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 19 at the Gerald L. Ignace Indian Health Center., 930 W. Historic Mitchell St. Guest speaker Miriam “Wepackespiw” Waupoose will lead a discussion about summer harvest. Children and adults can expect a surprise activity and a mini-traditional feast. 2. Community Cleanup Collaboration: Saturday, July 20 

Local hip-hop artist Sypher Lady X, initiative director at La Comunidad MKE, is partnering with Keep Greater Milwaukee Beautiful to host a cleanup competition from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 20. Seven nonprofits will compete to collect the most garbage bags to win prizes from local businesses. The cleanup will take place between West Greenfield Avenue and South 18th Street. 3. PEAK’s Annual Block Party: Saturday, July 20

The Kellogg PEAK Initiative provides youths with opportunities that help them become leaders. The initiative will be celebrating its 20th anniversary with a block party from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 20 at 2480 W. Cherry St. A basketball tournament, break dance performance and other family-friendly activities are planned. More information here. 

4. Employ Milwaukee Resource Table: Friday, July 19

Employ Milwaukee will be at the Milwaukee Public Library Zablocki Branch to share information about employment opportunities, paid training programs and more.  Representatives will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, July 19 at 3501 W. Oklahoma Ave. More information here. 

5. Free Grocery Giveaway: Saturday, July 20

Free groceries will be given away from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 20 in the parking lot of the Embassy Center MKE, 3725 N. Sherman Blvd. Come while supplies last. More information here. 

Bonus: Music on the Beerline: Friday, July 19

Join Riverworks Development Corp. for Music on the Beerline, a free music concert from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, July 19. The performance will take place at 3350 N. Holton St. Featured artists include Smoke and Mirrors and Urban Express and The Urbanites. The concert is part of a three-month music series that runs until September. More information here

Bonus: Rev-Up MKE: Applications due Sunday, July 21

Applications are being accepted for the seventh Rev-Up MKE competition, which is sponsored by Near West Side Partners, or NWSP, in collaboration with Marquette University and Town Bank. Rev-Up MKE is a small business pitch competition and business mentoring program that provides resources and opportunities for applicants to start or expand a new business on the Near West Side.  Applications close at 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, July 21. Finalists will be determined by a panel of judges and will be notified of their selection the first week of August. More information here.
