When: Saturday, August 16, 2025 | 1 – 5 p.m.
Where: McGovern Park, Milwaukee, WI
The Vanessa Single Mom Foundation, in partnership with UPIC Youth Ministry, is hosting a Community Outreach Day on Saturday, August 16th from 1 to 5 p.m. at McGovern Park, a day of service dedicated to honoring the life and legacy of Vanessa King, a young Milwaukee mother whose dream of giving back was tragically cut short.
On November 30, 2024, Vanessa was preparing to launch her “Mommy Giveaway,” an initiative to offer free technical support and resources to hardworking mothers in need. She had been working tirelessly on it, excited to bless others in her community. But just one day before she could launch her project, Vanessa was killed in a senseless, random act of violence. She was 20 years old and the devoted mother of a 1-year-old daughter.
Although she didn’t get the chance to launch her giveaway, we’re committed to picking up where she left off, serving families and giving back in her name.
Community Outreach Day will include:
- Free backpacks and school supplies for children
- Light refreshments
- Youth hairstyling services (limitations on styles will apply)
- Prayer and encouragement, plus opportunities to learn about the ministry at UPIC
We are currently seeking a volunteer barber to join us in offering free youth haircuts during the event.
Vanessa’s legacy is one of generosity, love, and community. Through this outreach, her vision lives on, not just in memory, but in action. What began as her dream to uplift other moms now becomes a collective mission to support families, honor her spirit, and build community resilience through faith and service.
We invite the public to join us, whether by volunteering, donating supplies, offering financial support, or simply showing up if you or your family could benefit from these resources. We would love to welcome you.
