It’s Friday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please submit your news by clicking here at least two weeks in advance.

1. Country Line Dance Workshop: Friday, Aug. 22

Mitchell Street Arts is hosting a pay-what-you-can country line dance workshop from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, at 710 W. Historic Mitchell St. Participants will learn choreography and dance techniques to several line songs. A $20 donation is suggested and registration is required.  More information here.

2. Scales and Justice: Friday, Aug. 22

The Milwaukee County Office of Equity and INPOWER present young men with an opportunity to experience an introduction to law and advocacy from noon to 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, at the Marcia P. Coggs Health and Human Services Center, 1230 W. Cherry St. Young men will explore careers, meet experienced legal professionals and gain insight in how to create change in the community. This also includes free food and games. More information here.

3. First Day Fits: Saturday, Aug. 23

To ensure each child heads into school with confidence, the fourth annual First Day Fits will be from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23, at Sherman Park, 3000 N. Sherman Blvd. Youths will receive new outfits, food and resources for free. More information here.

4. Fall in Love with Books: Saturday, Aug. 23

Poet laureate Shelly Conley, Brit Nicole and the Milwaukee Public Library invite all to a literacy fest. The event will feature literary vendors, writers, storytellers workshops and more activities from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Milwaukee Public Library Mitchell Street Branch, 906 W. Historic Mitchell St. More information here.

5. WHNA Boulevard Bash: Saturday, Aug. 23

Join the Washington Heights Neighborhood Association for a day filled with children’s activities, a beer garden, food vendors, silent auction and more. This bash will take place from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23,  at 5300 W. Washington Blvd. More information here.
