Milwaukee’s only evening riverfront 5K is back! The Schlitz Park Run by the River 5K returns on Thursday, September 11, 2025, inviting runners, walkers, neighbors, and corporate teams to come together for an unforgettable community celebration along the Milwaukee River.
More than just a race, this one-of-a-kind urban experience celebrates community, honors heroes, and raises funds for local causes. This year’s beneficiary is the Ignite the Spirit Fund – Milwaukee, a nonprofit founded by local firefighters that provides mental, emotional, and financial support to first responders and their families. On the meaningful date of September 11, the event also serves as a living tribute to the courage and resilience of those who protect Milwaukee every day.
Founded by the late Gary Grunau, a driving force in downtown Milwaukee’s revitalization, the Run by the River continues his legacy of philanthropy and city pride. Each year, more than 300 participants join to raise thousands for local charities.
New for 2025:
- Live music & Tap Yard Beer Garden (with a free beer for participants 21+)
- Cousins Maine Lobster food truck serving post-race bites
- The Firehouse Challenge – Milwaukee Fire Department teams compete for the Traveling Axe, engraved each year with the winning firehouse

- Chip-timed race by Silver Circle Sports Events, LLC
- Individual & Team Awards
- Custom dry-wick race shirt
- Free race day photos
