1. District 1 National Night Out: Friday, Aug. 7
Join Milwaukee Police District 1 at Maryland Avenue Montessori School, 2418 N. Maryland Ave., on Friday, Aug. 7 from 3 to 7 p.m. for a free, family-friendly event with food, music, games and community resources. More information here.
2. St. Hyacinth Parish Festival: Friday, Aug. 7 to Sunday, Aug. 9
St. Anthony and St. Hyacinth parishes are hosting a festival with food, music, dance and Catholic celebrations, with a raffle drawing Sunday at 8:15 p.m. for a 2016 GMC pickup truck and other prizes, at 1414 W. Becher St. on Friday, Aug. 7 through Sunday, Aug. 9. More information here.
3. Harambee 6th Annual Health Fair: Saturday, Aug. 8
WestCare Wisconsin is bringing together local organizations to offer wellness activities, resources and information for families at Rose Park, 3045 N. Martin Luther King Drive, on Saturday, Aug. 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. More information here.
4. Red Magic Art Festival: Sunday, Aug. 9
Celebrate Indigenous arts and culture at Jackson Park, 3580 W. Kinnickinnic River Parkway, on Sunday, Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The free one-day festival features live music, Native vendors and artists, food, games, face painting and free art activities for all ages. More information here.
5. Kids Takeover Deer District: Sunday, Aug. 9
Young people are taking over the Deer District Farmers Market at 1111 N. Vel Phillips Ave. on Sunday, Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Youths under 19 can claim a free vendor space at the weekly farmers market, which also carries produce, flowers, eggs and back-to-school goods. More information here.
Bonus: On-Sight Pop-Up: Saturday, Aug. 8 and Sunday Aug. 9
Ray-Ban and Clicks are providing free vision screening and prescription glasses for children 5 and up on Saturday, Aug. 8 and Sunday, Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Silver Spring Neighborhood Center, 5460 N. 64th Street. Registration is required and spots are filling up fast. More information here.
