Before the return of school, young artists have another chance to exercise their creative muscles at tables set up at the Jackson Park Farmers Market. Milwaukee’s Artists Working in Education (AWE) will bring artists and a mobile studio to the market on Thursday, Aug. 27, between 3 and 6:30 p.m. The visiting artists will encourage children of all ages to take up creative tools to express themselves.
“We loved having the artists here in June and are excited for their return,” said Farmers Market Manager, Dena Radtke. “You could see from the kids’ smiles, their laughter, just how much they enjoyed creating their favorite foods with artists’ clay, which they took home. I know this time, there will be something different — just as fun.”
AWE’s studio truck is a regular presence at summer activities in Milwaukee’s parks and farmers markets. The park’s natural setting and the energy of the weekly Thursday summer market, through Oct. 1, is expected to make for a fun time for all.
Funded by the City of Milwaukee Good Neighbor Grant, the project aims to promote and confidence-building as children transition into and out of their summer break.
The Jackson Park Community Association, which sponsors the Farmers Market, and Friends of Jackson and Manitoba Parks received funding for this joint effort. Both organizations serve the Jackson Park area’s local community and visitors.
Jackson Park Farmers Market is located on the South Side at the Jackson Park Boat House on the Kinnickinnick River Parkway, between 43rd St. and Forest Home.
