The new school year for many local students is right around the corner. Some kids are already back in the classroom. To help parents and others out, organizations around Milwaukee are hosting events to give out free school supplies and backpacks.

Heal the Hood Block Party and Resource Fair: Saturday, Aug. 29
Heal the Hood MKE is hosting a Back to School Fair from N. 21 to N. 24th and Burleigh Streets on Saturday, Aug. 29 from noon to 6 p.m. The event will include free school supplies, free food, and other resources. More information here.
Back-To-School Community Event: Saturday, Aug. 29
Haven of Hope International Ministries is hosting its inaugural back-to-school community event on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4040 W. Fond Du Lac Ave. The event will include food, backpack and school supply giveaways, bounce houses and community resources.
Shining Star Back to School Event: Saturday, Aug. 29
Enjoy a day of fun, family, community, school supply giveaways and more with Shining Star Christian Schools on Saturday, Aug. 29. The event will take place at MacDowell Park, 6415 W. Mt. Vernon Ave., at 11 a.m. More information here.
MLK EDC Back to School: Sunday, Aug. 30
Join the MLK Economic Development Corporation for a backpack giveaway, free food, face painting, bounce houses and more on Sunday, Aug. 30 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 2745 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. More information here.
Next Generation Leaders Back to School Giveaway and Block Party: Sunday, Aug. 30
Grab free book bags, school supplies, hygiene products, clothes, shoes, and haircuts with Next Generational Leaders at 25th and West Burleigh Streets on Sunday, August 30 from noon to 5 p.m. More information here.
2026 Back to School Festival: Sunday, Aug. 30
The City of Milwaukee Aldermanic District 2 is hosting a 2026 Back to School Festival on Sunday, Aug. 30. It will feature health and wellness vendors, free food and activities, giveaways and more for families and students from noon to 4 p.m. at Indigenous Peoples’ Park, 7301 W. Book-bag Giveaway and Family Day: Sunday, Aug. 30
Students can get free haircuts from licensed barbers and free backpacks on Sunday, Aug. 30, from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Mitchell Park Pavilion, 524 S. Layton Blvd. The event is hosted by the 5% Nation of Gods & Earths in conjunction with C.R.E.A.M Inc. More information here.
