This year in Milwaukee, there is no shortage of places to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.
The annual celebration runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 and recognizes the culture of Hispanics and Latinos and honors their contributions. The month also coincides with the independence anniversaries of several Latin American countries.

1. 13th Annual Puerto Rican Festival of Wisconsin: Saturday, Sept. 12
Feel like you’re spending a day in Puerto Rico with delicious food, music and more at Henry Maier Festival Park, 200 N. Harbor Drive, on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children. More information here.
2. 2026 Mexican Independence Parade & Festival: Sunday, Sept. 13
UMOS is hosting its annual Mexican Independence Day parade and festival on Sunday, Sept. 13. This year’s theme is Raíces y Cultura, or Roots and Culture. The parade starts at 11 a.m. at 2200 W. Kinnickinnic River Parkway, traveling east on East Oklahoma Avenue to South 6th Street and West Rosedale Avenue before ending at UMOS, 2701 S. Chase Ave., by 12:30 p.m. A festival with live entertainment, carnival rides, food and merchandise vendors follows at UMOS until 8 p.m. More information here.
3. Mexican Independence Celebration: Sunday, Sept. 13
Shop local vendors, try local food trucks, watch live tattoo artists and more at Zócalo, 636 S. 6th St., on Sunday, Sept. 13 from noon to 5 p.m. More information here.
4. Hispanic Heritage Tasting Dinner: Monday, Sept. 14
Marquette Law School’s Lubar Center for Public Policy Research and Civic Education is hosting a tasting dinner with cuisines across Latin America at The Ivy House, 906 S. Barclay St., on Monday, Sept. 14 from 5 to 7 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. and the program begins at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person. More information here.
5. Hispanic Heritage Month Community Run/Walk by Buena Tierra and Friends: Wednesday, Sept. 16
Go on a 3-mile run/walk with a DJ set before and after at Zócalo, 636 S. 6th St., on Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 6 to 9 p.m. More information here.
6. Connecting Community Voices: Thursday, Sept. 17
Join the Milwaukee County Historical Society, 910 N. Martin Luther King Drive, on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. for a panel celebrating the history and experiences of Milwaukee’s Latine community. The panel will feature County Supervisor Juan Miguel Martinez, Eloisa Gómez and Adamali De La Cruz, and is being moderated by Margarita Sandoval Skare. Register here. More information here.
7. Kohl’s Thank You: Thursday, Sept. 17
Visitors can enjoy free admission to the Milwaukee Public Museum, 800 W. Wells St., on Thursday, Sept. 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The exhibit floors will feature hands-on stations that explore Latino cultures, traditions, history, and artifacts. Get your free tickets here.
8. Nuestra Herencia: Sunday, Sept. 20
Celebrate Latino culture with a Mariachi Garibaldi performance, block party activities and food at South 16th Street at West Greenfield Avenue on Sunday, Sept. 20 from noon to 5 p.m. More information here.
9. Macondo: Recognizing Us Reception: Saturday, Sept. 26
Reflect on the stories, memories and legacies that shape Hispanic heritage at the Recognizing Us art exhibition at The Catacombs of Neto Art Museum, 207 E. Buffalo St., Suite LL18, on Saturday, Sept. 26 from 3 to 5 p.m. The exhibit is on view from Sept. 15 to Oct. 4. More information here.

11. Hispanic Heritage Month Closeout Celebration: Thursday, Oct. 8
Head to 3rd Street Market Hall, 275 W. Wisconsin Ave., on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. The event includes music, performances, a community market and a mental health fireside chat. More information here.
12. Celebración Latina: Saturday, Oct. 10
Visitors to the Milwaukee Public Museum, 800 W. Wells St., can enjoy a family-friendly event on Saturday, Oct. 10 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Latin-themed event will feature Afro-Latin and Caribbean dance performances, salsa dance lessons, and visitors can learn about different cultural crafts from local artisans. All the activities are included with general admission to the museum.
