The abandoned warehouse at 2500 West Cornell Street became Select Auto Parts & Sales, a 125,000 square foot indoor automotive recycling operation with ten employees on Milwaukee’s north side.
This week the 23rd annual Stevie Awards for Women in Business named the company a Finalist in the Reuse and Recycle category, chosen from more than 1,500 nominations from 56 nations. The entry is called The Building Was Recycled First: From Abandoned Warehouse to 7 Million Pounds Diverted.
Since then the operation has kept seven million pounds of material out of landfills while keeping repair parts affordable for the repair shops and drivers on this side of town.
Founder and CEO Natasha Broxton said: The building was recycled first, and it has never stopped. We proved that reuse is not a compromise. It is a business model that serves this community, keeps material out of landfills, and gives an abandoned property a second life.
