1. Indigenous Peoples’ Day Community Potluck: Monday, Oct. 12

Bring a dish to share at the Indigenous Peoples’ Day Community Potluck hosted by the Milwaukee Intertribal Circle and HIR Wellness Institute at 3232 W. Kilbourn Ave. on Monday, Oct. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. In addition to the food, there will be bingo, a raffle, a photo booth and a clothing giveaway. More information here.

2. Operation HOPE With Neal (Financial Literacy): Tuesday, Oct. 13

Get answers on budgeting, saving, credit and managing money at a financial literacy session led by Neal from Operation HOPE at Owen’s Place, 4610 W. Fond du Lac Ave. The session takes place on Tuesday, Oct. 13 from 4 to 5 p.m. and is open to anyone 16 and up. More information here.

3. MPL Presents: Milwaukee Turners’ Sound Mind Program: Tuesday, Oct. 13

Learn your rights during encounters with law enforcement at a workshop from the Milwaukee Turners’ Sound Mind Program at the Milwaukee Public Library’s Dr. Martin Luther King Branch Community Room, 2901 N. Martin Luther King Drive, on Tuesday, Oct. 13 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. More information here.

4. VIA CDC October Neighbor Meeting: Wednesday, Oct. 14

Hear recommendations from Clean Wisconsin on handling heavier rainfall and flooding, including rain barrels, native plants and stormwater tips, at VIA Community Development Corp.’s October Neighbor Meeting at Clarke Square Park Pavilion, 2330 W. Vieau Place. The meeting happens on Wednesday, Oct. 14 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Dinner is provided, and organizers recommend RSVPing here.

5. UCC Schools Open House: Thursday, Oct. 15

Meet students and staff and tour classrooms at the United Community Center Schools’ Open House on Thursday, Oct. 15 from 9 a.m. to noon. The schools serve K3 through eighth grade. Families can RSVP here.

Bonus: Indigenous Peoples’ Day Celebration: Monday, Oct. 12

The Milwaukee Public Museum is hosting its fourth annual Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebration from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 800 W. Wells St. You can see special performances by local Indigenous groups and visit hands-on learning stations. More information here.
