Milwaukee residents can support community-driven organizations across Wisconsin on Wednesday, October 14, during Wisconsin Roots Rising, a 24-hour statewide day of giving.
Hosted by Embolden WI in partnership with the Center for Community Stewardship (C4CS), Wisconsin Roots Rising brings dozens of grassroots and emerging organizations together in one place to give. Each participating group is fiscally sponsored, meaning it relies on a sponsor’s financial and administrative infrastructure so its people can put their time and energy into their mission.
Participating organizations work on issues that touch Milwaukee families and neighborhoods, from immigrant rights and school nutrition to youth health, environmental sustainability, and support for people living with Parkinson’s and dementia. They include Milwaukee based Comité Sin Fronteras, Break School, and AMIWI. Other organizations include Healthy School Meals for All WI, PATCH (Providers and Teens Communicating for Health), Building Families Alliance, Parkinson’s Disease Alliance of WI, Zero Waste Madison, and many others.
“These are the organizations that show up first when a community needs something, often with small budgets and a lot of heart,” said Sara Finger, Executive Director of Embolden WI. “Wisconsin Roots Rising is a simple way for people to find that work, get behind it, and help it grow. Whether you give $10 or $1,000, you’re investing in people who are building something from the ground up, right here at home.”
How to take part:
- Give now. Early giving is open, and every gift made before October 14 counts toward a participating organization’s total.
- Bid in the silent auction. Gift cards, experiences, products, and event tickets donated by local businesses and supporters are up for bid through the close of the day of giving on October 14.
- Start a fundraising page. Anyone can create a peer-to-peer page to rally friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors around a cause they care about.
