Former Vice President Kamala Harris coming through our door brought smiles all around and even shouts and tears of joy at the MacCanon Brown Homeless Sanctuary (MBHS). Joining Kamala Harris for a surprise visit was Congresswoman Gwen Moore!

The 40 minute visit on Oct. 26th was requested by Kamala Harris based on her deep interest in food banks. It was a non-political and nonpartisan visit deliberately without media coverage. Congresswoman Gwen Moore, who lived one block away from the MBHS facility at 2461 W. Center St., during her earlier years, recommended that former Vice President Kamala Harris visit our food bank.

MBHS Food Bank Manager Daniel James comments, “It was a thrill for me and the leaders and members of the Sanctuary Community to welcome Kamala Harris and Congresswoman Gwen Moore. As we witnessed Kamala Harris’ sincere enthusiasm about our food bank and many impactful programs it meant a lot to all of us.”
Established in a neighborhood with worsening food scarcity the MBHS Food Bank provides food to a growing number of households and individuals, both housed and unhoused. During 2025 our Food Bank, based on sign-in sheets, provided food for 4,600 unduplicated households and individuals.
