Elmer Moore Jr., the chairman of the Board of Commissioners for the Social Development Commission, has resigned, NNS learned Wednesday evening.
William Sulton, the SDC’s attorney, confirmed that Moore resigned last week.
The news comes as the agency’s Board of Commissioners will meet at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9 at the African American Chamber of Commerce of Wisconsin, 1920 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.
There will be a virtual option for the public to attend the meeting via Zoom.

I'll take the survey!Sulton said Barbara Toles, the board’s vice chair who represents SDC District 2 and currently remains as vice chair, is taking on the responsibilities of the chair before the board takes official action or moves to vote for a new chair.
Moore is chief executive officer of the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority, or WHEDA.
Moore did not immediately respond to requests to confirm his resignation as of Wednesday evening.
The Social Development, or SDC, abruptly shut down its operations and laid off its employees a little under two weeks ago. Since then, the board has been trying to figure out the next steps, Sulton said.
The shutdown has left many residents wondering what will happen to vital services and programs such as tax preparation and job training.
Sulton said the meeting will be significant and he expects there will be discussion on the agency’s programs and funding for those programs.
