When you come from a culinary background, it’s hard not to have a soft spot for restaurateurs. The job is difficult and requires a passion not only for cooking, but also for the people who fill your seats. Knowing this, I have a deep respect for Bennie Smith and his wife, Angela, owners of the SOHI District’s newest restaurant, Daddy’s Soul Food & Grille.
While writing this story, it was apparent to me that the Smiths see great potential in the neighborhood and are passionate about providing delicious food and a welcoming environment. This was my favorite story of the year because I believe locally owned restaurants help reinvigorate communities and I cannot wait to see the effect Daddy’s has on the up-and-coming SOHI district.
