Thousands of members of Wisconsin’s Hmong community and many non-Hmong guests celebrated the Hmong New Year with traditional songs and dances, foods, costumes and a variety of contests and awards.

Walker’s Point Parade commemorates Day of the Dead

Public library cuts hours despite increased attendance
The Milwaukee Public Library system has seen an increase of nearly 223,000 visitors compared to the same time last year. Still, the system had to cut its proposed budget for 2013, resulting in a reduction of hours and services.

Mexican Independence Day marked with parade and festival
The Latin and Central American countries of El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua all celebrated their independence days last weekend. Mexicans, who make up the largest ethnic group in the state, celebrated with a parade and festival on the city’s south side.
