It’s Monday in Milwaukee, and here are some things we think you should know about. If you would like your event to be considered for this column, please submit your news by clicking here at least two weeks in advance.

Starting Wednesday and continuing throughout February, three South Side restaurants are offering deals on bowls of phở. (NNS file photo by Ana Martinez-Ortiz)

1. Donate to the MPS mitten drive: deadline Tuesday, Jan. 31

Since October, MPS has been collecting mittens and winter clothing for students. You can donate through Tuesday, Jan. 31. More information on how to donate here.

2. “Phobruary” is back: starting Wednesday, Feb. 1

“Phobruary” is a monthlong celebration of the Vietnamese soup “phở” and the South Side businesses that serve it, taking place all of this February. Organized by VIA CDC, this is the 10th year the celebration has taken place. This year, Vientiane Noodle Shop, Thai Barbq and AsianRican Foods will be offering deals on bowls of phở and other items through the end of the month. Every first Friday of the month is “Financial Friday” at Coffee Makes You Black. It’s an opportunity to learn more about financing a home and investing. Teutonia Ave. From Our Archives: NNS Spotlight: ‘He doesn’t want to be king but he’s a kingmaker’: Meet the man behind Coffee Makes You Black

4. Meet the people who help set nonprofit funding priorities: Friday, Feb. 3

Meet program officers at the Greater Milwaukee Foundation, the folks who help set funding priorities for the philanthropic organization. They can answer questions about current and future grant funding opportunities. The program officers will be available from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Feb. 3 at 101 W. Pleasant St., Suite 210. No registration necessary.
