Journey House has begun its long-awaited move to a new home. Long split into three buildings located on different streets, the newly built Journey House Center for Family Learning and Youth Athletics will now house all the organization’s programs as well as administrative offices.

Tenor students study law and get their day in court
Students at Tenor and three other city high schools are learning about the American legal system through a Marquette University Law School program called Street Law. In addition to a full year in the classroom, the teens recently competed in mock trials at the county and federal courthouses.

Harriet Dorsey celebrates 106th birthday
Harriet Dorsey, the oldest resident of Walnut Way, celebrated her 106th birthday this week. State representative Elizabeth Coggs (10th District) joined the party, held at the Clinton Rose Senior Center, 3045 N. Dr. Martin Luther King Dr. In 2006, when Dorsey was 100, she was inducted in the Milwaukee County Senior Hall of Fame, receiving a special “Century of Service Award.” The long-time community volunteer has been called “the Queen Mother of the African American community.”

Clarke Square homeowners eligible for free property repairs
Enrollment is now open for Habitat for Humanity’s A Brush With Kindness Program in Clarke Square. The program’s volunteer workforce repairs properties of low-income homeowners in the area.
