Sixth annual Bronzeville Week celebrates Vel R. Phillips with street dedication

A stretch of Fourth Street between Capitol Drive and St. Paul Avenue is now Vel R. Phillips Avenue. Bronzeville Week included the dedication ceremony, food and entertainment events, and opportunities to support local business.

MPS board approves plan to restructure 53206 schools, increase North Division enrollment

Milwaukee Public Schools is moving forward with an initiative to reconfigure schools in the 53206 ZIP code, creating a feeder system for North Division and Douglas, which will become a middle school.

North Division committee calls for independent African-American board to run failing school
